(992) Dakar
Key Points: Rallye Design Package, Extended Rallye Design Package, Personal Start Number. In November 2022, Porsche launched the 911 Dakar at the Los Angeles Auto Show. A rally-focused variant of the iconic sports car, it is limited to just 2,500 units, and named after the gruelling Dakar rally raid, which Porsche won for the first time in 1984 with the 953, and again in 1986 with the 959. The 992 Dakar features new ‘Offroad’ and ‘Rallye’ drive modes. ‘Offroad’ activates the axle lift system and is designed for maximum traction on difficult terrains, while ‘Rallye’ sends around 80% of the power to the rear wheels for added control on loose surfaces. The Rallye Launch Control system can be activated in both modes, which aids acceleration on loose terrain and allows around 20% more wheel slippage. The ride height is 50mm higher than a 911 Carrera, and the lift system can raise the front and rear axles by an additional 30mm at speeds of up to 105mph. There are stainless steel guards on the front and rear aprons, as well as a carbon fibre bonnet, a fixed CFRP rear spoiler, an Exclusive Design fuel filler cap, and protective black wheel arch mouldings. Standard equipment includes Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), Porsche Traction Management, the Sport Chrono package, 911 GT3 engine mounts, Power Steering Plus and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). Under the rear engine lid is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six, delivering 473hp and 420lb-ft of torque to all four wheels through an eight-speed PDK transmission with paddle shift, resulting in a top speed of 149mph and a 0-60mph sprint time of 3.4 seconds.
